For the first time in 15 years, the O's have reached 81 wins in a season. With Thursday's 3-2, 14-inning win over Tampa Bay, the Birds, expected by many to hit 100 losses this year, have ended their 14-year losing streak...finally.
In the process, the club extended an incredible streak of 13 straight extra-inning victories, a franchise record.
In yet another marathon game, the O's had plenty of chances, but finally came through in the 14th. The Birds went 3-for-14 with runners in scoring position and stranded 16 men on base, but Manny Machado's RBI single to score Adam Jones gave the O's their second straight walk-off win over Tampa Bay.
The Birds went 5-2 on the homestand, splitting with New York before sweeping the Rays. The O's remain tied with the Yankees for first in the division, and now head out on a nine-game road trip through Oakland, Seattle and Boston. Joe Saunders takes the mound on Friday night.
