After a Yankees loss, the O's had a chance to take sole possession of first place in the East, but fell to Oakland 3-2 on Friday night.
Chris Davis blasted his 26th homer, a monster shot to dead center to tie the game at two in the fifth inning, but Oakland scored in the bottom of the frame and the Birds were unable to come back. The Orioles grounded into four double plays on the night, and Xavier Avery was caught stealing with Davis at the plate to end the game.
Joe Saunders looked good but took the loss after allowing all three runs on seven hits and two walks over six innings, fanning six. Jake Arrieta pitched the final two frames, striking out five of the six batters he faced.
The upside? The O's are still tied for first place in the East on September 14th...simply amazing. Zach Britton is scheduled to take the mound on Saturday night.
